Hi there, cause of postpartum depression is multi-determined. Part hormonal, part situational, part psychological, part cultural even! What they are showing is that there breastfeeding problems and PPD seem to co-occur significantly often enough to warrant further research. What do you think? I would love to hear your views too?

I don't have any mommy blues, but I am passionate about all of these issues well articulated in the article by Kim above. I think Lenore S is a hero for putting herself on the line and bringing these "extreme" parenting nazis out of the bushes to contribute to this national conversation about overparenting. When you read everything she's written, she is not extreme...she is reasonable. I'm sure she is as loving a mom as any homeschooler who wants to keep their kids safe at home for whatever reason. Thank you Kim for your fabulous article.

I think my most guiding question in the parenting of my four children is "Is this working for us?" When I can pause long enough to check in with myself and actually get a true and connected answer, I can then connect more to all aspects of family life. Slowing down isn't just about doing less, it's about connecting to self and to family in such a way that makes family life enjoyable.

In Asia, we do not use the word over-parenting. Instead we use the phrase 父母孝顺儿子 (Parents filial to children). In China, due to the 1-child policy, the parents are extremely "filial" to their child. Parenting (or over-parenting) failures are common in China as the one-and-only-one child at home get all he/she wants. The parents have no choice as the child would inherit everything from them anyway when they passed away.

We at Singapore Math Chinese Tutor deal with a lot on children from such family background. They study 儿子孝顺父母 with us while their parents teach them 父母孝顺儿子
